Velasquez Slays Minotauro, Sets Up Title Shot with Lesnar

cainvsnogueriera

by Marcos S. Villegas

Sydney, Australia--Heavyweight wrecking machine Cain Velasquez continues to be the most talked about heavyweight by insiders in and out of mixed martial arts. His destruction of living legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in just one round gives credence that we may very well be looking at the next Lesnar killer. It took one round and exactly two minutes and twenty seconds for the Mexican-American fighter to put away "Minotauro," who spoke of Velasquez as "One of the best fighters in the heavyweight division." From the start of the fight Nogueira was completely overwhelmed, with Velasquez jabs setting up textbook combinations that could of came straight out of a instructional striking how to. Kicks to the legs, constant head movement, powerful jabs and punches in bunches put Velasquez's completeness as a mixed martial artist on display this night. The left hook was of significant importance as the American Kickboxing Academy standout would unleash it and score each and every time a Nogueira straight would come his way. Nogueira took those hooks flush on the chin a few times before finally crumbling; after throwing a straight right hand that was immediately countered by a three hook combination. The former Pride and UFC heavyweight champion buckled to the mat and Velasquez followed up with five straight shots to the face to put away the Brazilian.

Cro Cop Warns: "I don't think anyone should underestimate me"

mirkocrocop

At UFC 110 from the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic will face Ben Rothwell. Both fighter are coming of devastating losses, Cro Cop verbally submitted in his loss to Junior Dos Santos and Rothwell via TKO against Cain Velasquez.

Here is what Cro Cop had to say: "I don't think anyone should underestimate me. When you have a self-made fighter like I am, with the PRIDE belt that I won, it's not good to underestimate me. Especially right now because I'm in really good shape and I'm looking forward to this fight. [Rothwell's] very good with his ground and pound as you saw with his fight against Arlovski, but I'm not afraid. Even if we go to the ground, I will manage -- but I don't think it will go to the ground."

Wanderlei: "I badly want a victory and I want a victory Wanderlei Silva-style"

wanderlei-silva-1

Recently the former Pride recking machine Wanderlie "the Axe Murderer" Silva discussed his upcoming bout against Michael Bisping.

Silva starts off with a warning, “I am going back to my best now.”  Silva is coming off a tough loss to Rich Franklin at UFC 99, it is important that he comes up with a win, he is 1-3 since rejoining the UFC.

Silva goes on to say, “I thought I had a great match last time, but I don’t just want to put on good performances – I want to win fights. I badly want a victory and I want a victory Wanderlei Silva-style.”

“I have fought everybody in mixed martial arts,” says Silva. “I am not scared to fight anybody. You don’t even have to ask me twice. I accept every fight that is offered to me. Michael Bisping doesn’t scare me. How can Bisping scare me? I’ve traded punches with the best fighters in the world. Nobody can make me afraid.

“I don’t mind getting hit in a fight. I don’t think Bisping has the power to knock me out.”
